IHS’ veterans hearing care access legislation, H.R. 3471, reached another milestone on November 17 when it was passed unanimously by the U.S. Senate. The bill, now awaiting the President’s signature, authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs’ use of hearing aid specialists on the audiology-led hearing healthcare team, and encourages their use in the contract network. This first step in our Fit to Serve campaign is four years in the making, and now IHS will turn its attention to the VA’s implementation of related policy and resolving problems with the contract network that prevent hearing aid specialists from being able to help as VA providers.
